Sam Raimi is currently preparing for the release of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, the first film he’s directed for nine years. And while fans eagerly await its May release, they’ve been fantasising about the return of another Marvel superhero Raimi previously worked with.
Ever since Spider-Man: No Way Home was a box office hit, there have been whispers about what the next Spider-Man movie will look like. Some have been asking for Andrew Garfield to return. This would complete his trilogy of The Amazing Spider-Man films and is an idea Garfield himself is all for. Louder still are the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man stans, who were stirred into a frenzy when Maguire announced that No Way Home was not the end to his character’s story.
We got the chance to virtually sit down with current Spider-Man, Tom Holland, and discuss his thoughts on No Way Home. Check it out here.
Raimi, the director of Maguire’s trilogy in the ‘00s, seems more interested in making a new Batman film than returning to his work with Spider-Man right now, but we still live in hope. Last year, storyboards emerged showing ideas for a fourth Spider-Man film directed by Raimi, in which our web-slinging superhero squared up against villain The Vulture.
Spider-Man 3 turned out to be not so popular with fans, and this fourth story in Raimi’s universe never saw the light of day. Despite this the potential narrative still has its fans, including one Marvel producer.
In an interview with Gizmodo, Grant Curtis, who worked on Raimi’s trilogy, was asked for his thoughts on the unused storyboards:
“The Spider-Man movies we made were an incredible opportunity career-wise. As a fan I love the narratives that were generated from those three movies. There were other stories within those movies that did not get told. I hope someday, as any Spider-Man fan would tell you, that all of those stories come out, and that narrative continues.”
The more people supporting it, the more chance we have of a Maguire comeback. However, with such little information we’ll temper our expectations for now.
