Marvel movies have been a bit hit and miss in recent years. For every Spider-Man: No Way Home to remind you why the MCU can be truly incredible, there’s an Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania to bring you crashing back down to Earth.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was a particular disappointment, since it kicked off Phase Five of the MCU with less of a bang, and more of a rather flat pop. Even though it wasn’t the best start for the upcoming slate of movies, at the very least it sounds like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will rectify that. Early critic reactions hailed it as the “best Marvel film in years”, and it currently has a score of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes ahead of its release in cinemas tomorrow.

One Marvel film that ended up leaving many underwhelmed last year was Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Doctor Strange sequel saw everyone’s favourite arrogant caped lad venture through the multiverse with America Chavez and face off against Wanda Maximoff, who had become desperate to use America’s power’s to reunite with her sons Billy and Tommy, who fans were introduced to in Wandavision.

But what went wrong with it? Well, many criticised the fact that it felt more like a sequel to Wandavision than it did Doctor Strange, and some were also unhappy with the way Wanda’s character was handled, and argued that the complex character created in the aforementioned Disney+ show had been massively simplified for the film. However, this may not have always been the case.
As ComicBook reports, Xochitl Gomez, who played America Chavez in the movie, recently defended Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron on TikTok. She wrote: “Y’all need to stop hating on Michael Waldron. They asked for 33 rewrites… none of it is up to him.”
Gomez didn’t reveal any further details as to what was changed during all those rewrites, or what story Waldron had originally wanted to tell, and we may never know. It's funny to think that out there somewhere, there are so many different versions of a film which was literally all about the existence of alternate realities.
