Multiple Assassin's Creed games being taken offline forever by Ubisoft

This certainly isn’t the kind of news we want to hear on a Monday morning. It’s been confirmed that Ubisoft will take several old Assassin’s Creed games offline in January.

I wouldn’t particularly say that Assassin’s Creed has ever fallen out of favour, but it does feel as if it's been put back on the map this year. Assassin’s Creed Mirage saw the franchise return to its stealth-based roots, while the upcoming Codename Red will finally take fans to the highly-anticipated location of Feudal Japan. Concept art of Codename Red recently appeared to leak online, teasing a possible reveal in the coming months. Let’s not forget that we’re mere weeks away from The Game Awards which is always chock full of juicy reveals. Beyond that, we have Codename Hexe which could be taking us to the future. Today though, we’re here to talk about several classic titles that’ll soon be taken offline.

In total, Ubisoft will be taking 10 titles offline, including four Assassin’s Creed games. On Xbox 360, you’ll no longer be able to play the multiplayer or use the online features of Assassin's Creed II, Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD, and Splinter Cell: Conviction. This also applies to Assassin's Creed Liberation HD on the PlayStation 3.

Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood’s multiplayer and online features will become unavailable on MAC. PC users are taking the worst hit. Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Heroes of Might and Magic VI, NCSI, R.U.S.E, and Trials Evolution are the games losing their online functionality on that platform.

These changes are due to come into place on 25 January 2024. Ubisoft wrote, “Decommissioning the online services for older games is something we do not take lightly, however, it is also a necessity as the technology behind these services becomes outdated.”
