Netflix is keeping The Office after all, but not forever

Netflix has reportedly renewed streaming rights to The Office (US) for two more years, after they were set to expire at the start of 2023.

If you were planning on binging The Office (US) at some point, you probably ought to get on with it. Although the show is sticking around on Netflix for a bit longer than expected, the end is still nigh.

As GamesRadar+ reports, the US version of The Office was previously expected to leave Netflix at the start of this year in multiple countries, due to its streaming rights expiring. However, it’s now been reported by What’s On Netflix that the streaming giant has renewed the rights for another two years in “most to all” of the affected regions.

Many countries were originally set to be affected, including Australia, Spain, Canada, France, and the UK. For UK readers, a quick glance on the Netflix site proves that, indeed, all episodes are still there and intact, ready for viewing. According to What’s On Netflix's report, the renewed rights are set to last until 1 January 2025, so plenty of time has been bought for viewers to catch up or even start the whole thing from scratch - but it won’t be there forever.

It’s certainly a better outcome than many other Netflix shows have had lately. Many different series have been straight up cancelled - period drama 1899’s cancellation kicked off the year, with many fans still determined to save it with a petition. Now, it’s just been announced that the animated comedy Inside Job is over, too - despite it previously having a second season confirmed. It’s been suggested by experts that low completion rate might be a factor influencing the cancellation of certain shows, but there are still probably other factors at play.

Anyway, be sure to make the most of The Office (US) while you can - its days are numbered.
