The Witcher is a franchise that seems to have been experiencing both its highest highs and lowest lows in the last month or so. On the video game side of things, as well as the plethora of new titles currently in the works, we finally know what the new-gen Witcher 3 looks like, and it’s glorious - the free update is set to launch on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles on 14 December.
Then, we have the mess of the Netflix series situation. Unless you’ve been away from the internet since late October (in which case, I thank you for making your first stop in your return to the online world at our dear website), I’m sure you’ll be aware that the fanbase basically exploded over the fact that Henry Cavill is going to be stepping down from the role of Geralt in season four, and be replaced by none other than Liam Hemsworth. Given that over 200,000 fans have petitioned to keep Cavill and fire the writers…yeah. That just about sums it up.

In amongst all that chaos, we still have a Witcher spin-off show coming very soon called Blood Origin - that one doesn’t star Geralt at all, so I guess it can can kind of get away with the recent controversy. According to a new report though, this might not be the only spinoff in the works. Redanian Intelligence claims that fans can soon look forward to a show centred around The Rats - a group of Nilfgaardian young outlaws who, in the books, Ciri teams up with for a while.

Amongst the fanbase, they’re not exactly a popular group, so it’s claimed that this show (which will apparently simply be called The Rats) is being made in an effort to explore the characters before they play a more prominent role in the main show - they’ll be making their debut in season three, but according to Redanian Intelligence, will be heavily featured in season four. It’s not currently know where in The Witcher timeline this alleged spinoff show would be set.
At the time of writing, this show’s existence hasn’t been officially confirmed, so do take it with a pinch of salt.
