'Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Update Coming This Week With Tons Of New Content

Coming at you like a Leif in the night.

Just when you started to feel you were getting sick of ridiculously chilled-out island life, Nintendo swoops in to rope you right back into Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Thought you were done laying down paths, planting flowers, and working towards that rich and fruitful goal of a perfect town? Think again, you FOOLS.

The (free) new update hits the critically acclaimed Nintendo Switch title this Thursday (April 23rd) and brings with it a ton of new content. New characters, in-game events, items, and building upgrades are all making their way to the game. As someone who's pretty much finished turning their island into a five-star resort, I'm very excited to crack on with more.

Take a look at a quick rundown of all the new stuff you can expect via the trailer below.

As you can see, there's a substantial amount of content making its way to the game. Perhaps most exciting of all is the news of a museum expansion. Fans of the older games in the franchise will recall that the museum typically has an art gallery. This section of the museum is now back... which means it'll be up to players to once again deal with dodgy art merchant Redd as they attempt to work out which pieces are real and which are fake.

"After downloading the free update, Jolly Redd will occasionally show up in his boat to sell in-game art, as well as furniture with unique colors," Nintendo explains. "Like in previous Animal Crossing games, players will have to figure out which art pieces are real and which are fake. After purchasing genuine art, players can donate it to the island museum to open an art gallery, which will display all types of donated pieces, from paintings to sculptures."

Fan-favourite sloth Leif is also back in action as a travelling salesman. He'll show up by the town hall on random days, ready to peddle all kinds of rare flowers and shrubbery. I was getting kind of sick of the same few flowers, so I'm all for breaking up some of my paths and gardens with some lovely hedgerows.

There are also a handful of new events on the (heh) horizon, all of which promise to be better than the poorly-received Bunny Day event. Nature Day (April 23rd-May 4th) will encourage players to embrace the greenery on their island, while the May Day Tour (May 1st-7th) will whisk players away for a limited time tour of a special island.

There's also International Museum Day (May 18th-31st), which encourages players to explore the museum and collect stamps for an in-game reward. Finally, Wedding Season (June 1st-30th) will celebrate love by giving us the chance to arrange a wedding shoot with Reese and Cyrus, newly married alpacas. I love that this game lets me write things like that.
