'Obi-Wan Kenobi' Release Delayed, But There's Also Some Really Good News

It's been announced that Obi-Wan Kenobi will be facing a two-day delay, but two episodes will be shown on the premiere day instead of one.

I know that this article must look incredibly suspicious given the date, but no - I promise you this is real. Despite only just getting its first official trailer and release date last month, the highly anticipated Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi has been delayed.

Originally set to release on 25 May, Star Wars fans are going to have a soul-crushing wait ahead of them…of two days. Wait, what? That’s right, for some reason, the series is facing perhaps the world’s shortest delay, and being moved to 27 May. Clearly, Disney still felt the need to make up for any disappointment, though, because they’re offering a very exciting bonus, which’ll definitely make it all worth it.

Feast your eyes on the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer below - albeit with a now inaccurate release date.

The news was announced in a video presented by Ewan McGregor himself over on the official Star Wars Twitter account: “Hello Star Wars fans, thank you for all your incredible support and response to Obi-Wan Kenobi. I have some important news - our premiere date is moving, just a couple of days, from Wednesday to Friday, May 27,” he said. “But here’s the exciting part - the first two episodes will premiere together.”

That’s right, we’re getting hit with the ol’ one-two. As reported by The Escapist, the rest of the series (so, the other four episodes) will be released each Wednesday after that. Although no official reason for the delay has been given, chances are that it’s to make the premiere line up with this year’s Star Wars Celebration, which is running between 26 and 29 May.

Even though the series is yet to actually hit our screens, a second season is already being considered by the higher ups. Last month, Lucasfilm president and producer of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Kathleen Kennedy, revealed to Entertainment Weekly that everyone involved would really wanna see it happen: “It's certainly something we talk about, mainly because everybody came together and had such an incredible time,” she said. “Ewan [McGregor] had an incredible time. Hayden [Christensen] had an incredible time. So certainly from that point of view, everybody involved would love to see this not end.”

One step at a time, though, as I’m sure everyone just wants to get their eyes on any episodes at all, first. Thankfully, even with that (admittedly tiny) delay, there’s not long to wait now, as Obi-Wan Kenobi will be premiering exclusively on Disney+ next month.
