'Left 4 Dead 2' Is Getting New Content After Nearly A Decade

Dead rising.

The dead speak! It's been close to 11 years since Valve and Turtle Rock Studios released the immensely popular zombie co-op adventure Left 4 Dead 2. Since then, Valve has pushed out the occasional update and fix for the four-player shooter to make sure everything still runs smoothly, but for the most part it's been left alone... until now.

For the first time since 2012's Cold Stream, Left 4 Dead 2 is getting a proper content update. The Last Stand is another community creation that Valve has approved as an official release, but if it's anything like Cold Stream, it'll packed with fascinating new things for longtime players to get stuck into. The Last Stand doesn't have an official release date yet, but Valve confirmed in an official blog post that it's coming soon.

"It has been many years since the infection first hit. Radio silence, no sign of life, nothing but lingering hopes... CEDA is not going to save us," the blog post reads. "But there is hope! A few brave souls have continued the fight against all odds, and soon we can all benefit from their resilience."

That's all we have to go on as far as The Last Stand is concerned right now. Fans of the original Left 4 Dead will remember that The Last Stand was the name of a survival map in that first game, but I would imagine that there's a little more to this update than that. Cold Stream included an entirely new campaign for players to get stuck into, complete with a bevy of new maps.

Keep your expectations in check until we know more, but the smart money would be on Left 4 Dead 2's Last Stand update offering a similar level of content. Whatever the case, I'm just happy to have an excuse to dive back into one of my favourite shooters of all time.

While the fans continue to work on new content for Left 4 Dead 2, the game's original developers have since moved on to pastures new. Earlier this year, Turtle Rock Studios shared its first look at its new project - a multiplayer zombie game called Back 4 Blood. Well, I guess if they can't make Left 4 Dead 3 for whatever reason, they may as well make something pretty damn similar.
