Elden Ring collides with Sekiro in new dark fantasy RPG

What do you do when you want to play Elden Ring, but you also want to play Sekiro? The answer is play both.

What do you do when you want to play Elden Ring, but you also want to play Sekiro? The answer is to play a game that takes inspiration from them both.

Well soon you’ll be able to do exactly that, as the creators of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is working on a new game that looks heavily inspired by FromSoftware’s soulsborne titles, as well as a famous fantasy tale. At the time of writing the project doesn’t have an official name, but at the moment it’s known as The Bird That Drinks Tears, the same name as the Korean novel it’s based on.

The Bird That Drinks Tears is a four volume fantasy series written by Lee Yeongdo. The books were reportedly inspired by Korean mythology and feature a variety of weird and wonderful creatures.

How the team at Krafton plan to adapt the story into a game is currently unknown, but a safe bet would be some sort of soulslike adventure, which has done wonders for fantasy series in the past, hence the comparison to Elden Ring and Sekiro.

It’s not just the game Krafton is planning either, it also wants to adapt the books into a graphic novel, as well as a film if there’s scope for it. Concept artist Iain McCai is currently aboard the project, who’s previously worked on the Star Wars films, most notably credited for the appearance of Darth Maul, a now iconic character in the Star Wars universe.

The Bird That Drinks Tears currently has no release window and is still in very early development, with concept trailers believed to be a way of bringing new talent to the project. It’ll be a while before we see official gameplay or a glimpse at the story but it’s certainly an upcoming game worth keeping an eye on.
