According to a supposed insider, the next Far Cry game could already be in the works, and fans are divided over its alleged setting and plot.
Admittedly, it’s not been too long since the last Far Cry game came out - Far Cry 6 released in 2021, and starred none other than Giancarlo Esposito as the main antagonist, Antón Castillo. With that in mind, it’s not so much that we’re overdue news on a seventh entry in the series, but it’s still nice to hear that something is apparently being brewed up behind the scenes.

As shared on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, one anonymous insider has come forward with what they claim to be a bunch of details about the upcoming seventh Far Cry game, which they say will be called Far Cry: Rise. It should be noted that given the source's anonymous nature, at the time of writing, it’s impossible to tell if there’s any legitimacy to these claims, so be sure to take them with a pinch of salt.

It’s claimed that Rise will take place on a remote tropical island called Kimsan, located in the Yellow Sea. According to the insider’s synopsis, the island has been taken over by North Korean insurgents, led by a character played by Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae. Gamers will reportedly be able to play as a male or female Korean idol, who must fight to survive and protect their sibling from the insurgency.
Additionally, it’s alleged that as well as being able to play through Rise's main campaign co-operatively with up to four people, an open-world extraction mode titled Far Cry: Conquest will be launched at the same time, which will allow players to take on narrative-based missions while fighting for survival against 90 enemy players.
On Reddit, many fans aren’t too pleased about these alleged details: “This is either fake or should be fake,” Dry_B0nes wrote. “Was really hoping they would move away from the tropical island setting, if the mechanics and gameplay are going to be identical from game to game at least give us a creative setting, helped 5 feel fresh [in my opinion],” added Equivalent_Network29.
Again, at the time of writing, none of this information has been confirmed by Ubisoft.
