A prequel mod for GTA: San Andreas is once again in full-swing after a lengthy hiatus, bringing us that sweet retro goodness.

A prequel mod for GTA: San Andreas is once again in full-swing after a lengthy hiatus, bringing us that sweet retro goodness.

While I’m excited to see what Rockstar Games is cooking up behind-the-scenes, all the buzz around GTA VI just made me want to play GTA: Vice City again, leading to yet another playthrough of GTA: San Andreas.

Hopefully GTA VI lives up to the legacy of the previous games, while having its own original ideas and innovations, check out the trailer below

While the latest releases are impressive, I’d still say GTA: San Andreas is the best game in the series, as while it’s outdated in many ways it’s still a brilliant virtual playground with plenty of replay value.

However, what if I said you could play an original story, set in San Andreas, but several years in the past?

That’s exactly what GTA 1991 has set out to achieve, and while it’s still in the early stages of development a recent update has revealed steady progress is being made, hopefully leading to a demo soon.

The mod seemingly went on a hiatus, but the lead developer has since returned, saying: “We've been working hard, trying to rekindle the sparks that died out and making sure the flame stays lit this time!”

They went on to say: “So the team and I have a couple of goodies to share with you guys... Nothing major...YET. The team and I can assure you this is going to get DONE!”

GTA 1991 will feature changes to the game’s map, new missions, stories, customisation and much much more, basically a whole new release.

Of course with such a small team fans shouldn’t expect the speed and efficiency Rockstar Games may have, but rest assured one day we’ll be able to get our hands on the mod and try it for ourselves.
