Horizon Forbidden West surprise free download released

Horizon Forbidden West fans, you have a treat waiting, assuming you haven’t realised this already. A free PC download has dropped that’ll vastly improve your experience of the game.

That is, assuming you’re a right-handed player; unfortunately, lefties are going to find that the PC update for Horizon Forbidden West offers little in the way of better accessibility. As a result, remapping keys for an easier time isn’t on the cards for you, nor has Sony given any indication when – or even if – that’ll happen.

Here’s the patch notes in full:

• Remapping TAB now works correctly.
• Added HUD Widescreen Scale options to the settings menu.
• Various optimizations and stability improvements.
• Custom difficulty settings now work correctly.
• Improved Shieldwing responsiveness when using mouse and keyboard controls.
• Fixed graphic corruption on waterfalls when using DLSS Frame Generation.
• Fixed lighting issues that could occur in Tenakth settlements.
• Master Vibration Intensity for DualSense controllers no longer resets with each game session.
• HDR settings have been moved to the display menu to allow live viewing of changes.
• The option to disable letterboxing in cinematics when using ultra-wide aspect ratios is now also available from the launcher.
• Fixed visual issues with save previews when HDR is enabled.
• Various minor UI fixes.

Although there’s some highly requested features still missing (like the left-handed accessibility), “several other bug fixes and improvements” have been made. Furthermore, “The teams at Nixxes and Guerrilla continue to closely monitor reports and are actively working on future patches with more bug fixes and optimisations.”

The next time you launch the game in Steam, it will automatically update to the latest version. Now all there’s left to do is sit back, download that update, and begin roaming the futuristic wilds of Horizon Forbidden West once more.
