The Legend of Zelda has been a beloved series for Nintendo fans since the series' inception all the way back in 1986 on the NES.
The most recent entry in this series is Tears of the Kingdom, the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Breath of the Wild for the Nintendo Switch. In our review of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, we said: “Whether you’re leaping from a jet-powered glider onto the back of an ancient dragon or accidentally riding your go-kart off the edge of a cliff because you strapped too many fans to it, Tears Of The Kingdom effortlessly dances between the epic and the ridiculous”.

Recently, Nintendo celebrated major success with the Super Mario Bros. Movie which smashed the worldwide box office generating over $1 billion, making it one of the most successful animated movies ever. As such, seeing the success of this movie, The Legend of Zelda fans, including the Tears of the Kingdom director, wanted a slice of that movie pie and now, that wish is being granted.

Creator of The Legend of Zelda series, Shigeru Miyamoto announced on Twitter that a movie set in the Kingdom of Hyrule is in the works. “I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega-hit films,” he tweeted. “I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”
At this time, it hasn't been announced who will play the likes of Link and Princess Zelda. However, despite not knowing who will be cast in the roles, some fans on Reddit are begging Nintendo not to cast Spider-Man star Tom Holland in the live-action adaptation.
“Any money they’ll make Tom Holland Link… shivers,” said a nervous Robsonmonkey. “Co-financed by Sony Pictures and produced by Avi Arad? It's gonna be Tom Holland as Link isn't it?” replied BARD3NGUNN. Of course, there are plenty of Chris Pratt jokes in the thread too, which will surprise absolutely nobody.
At this time, we do not have a release date for The Legend of Zelda movie, but it’s likely to be at least two or three years away. Let’s just hope that the adaptation does this iconic video game series the justice it deserves.
