Palworld developer accuses new game of ripping them off without a hint of irony

Palworld’s creator believes the coming years will yield an endless supply of games trying to copy Palworld’s success, which sounds kind of familiar…

Palworld is of course the Pokemon-esque creature catching and battling game that took gamers on PC and Xbox by storm a few months ago.

The premise is rather simple, you catch a wide variety of colourful critters, hand them oddly realistic human firearms, and lay waste to the world whilst you explore and put together a base.

You can even capture straight-up human people and put them to work in your base, as if the game couldn’t get any weirder.

Sadly the game has steadily declined in popularity since launch, losing its title as the most-played game on Steam to the equally fantastic Helldivers 2, which is still the most popular game on the platform at the moment.

However while Palworld has lost the majority of its players, developer PocketPair still plans to support the game with new content, some of which has already been teased online.

Recently though the CEO of PocketPair, Takuro Mizobe, took to Twitter to highlight new games following in Palworld’s footsteps, and is predicting there’ll be loads of Palworld clones in the years to come.

The CEO shared a picture of one of these clones called Auroria which was developed by Tencent, and added "Genshin Impact-quality monster (or girl) breeding games" will likely be a huge game genre next year.

Odd phrasing aside, the CEO is probably right given all the buzz Palworld generated at launch, and as more and more updates for the game are released, including a long-awaited PvP mode, its popularity could rise again.

Palworld is currently available on PC via Steam, and is also available at no additional cost on Xbox Series X/S via Xbox Game Pass.
