Fallout: Whispering Hills is a full-blown horror that's well worth checking out

A Fallout 4 mod turns the Bethesda RPG into a first-person Silent Hill game, and it’s horrifyingly good.

Despite not being horror games, the Fallout series does a good job of making you surprising you and making you feel uneasy during certain parts of the game. I don’t think there’s anything more tense than being chased down by a Deathclaw whilst under-levelled, or skulking through a vault full of ghouls.

If you want to really turn up the scare factor though, I’d wholeheartedly recommend the Whispering Hills mod, which turns the game into an unsettling, post-apocalyptic nightmare.

The Whispering Hills mod covers Fallout 4 in a thick blanket of fog and populates the wasteland with several popular monsters and cryptids. Siren Head, Ghouls, and Pyramid Head from the Silent Hill games are just a few examples of the hostile entities you’ll encounter.

It also completely overhauls the in-game audio, replacing the groovy tunes of Fallout’s radio, as well as the themes of all the Commonwealth areas with dark, bleak, horrifying sounds and music.

A new quest line is also available, along with new NPCs, who are fully voice-acted, who’ll take you on an entirely new adventure, if you’ve got the stomach for it.

Recently, Episode 2 of the mod was uploaded, which adds a new hospital area, as well as opens up more parts of the map to explore. No doubt the new areas will have their own spooks and scares waiting around every corner.

This is a phenomenal mod for horror fans and completely changes the way you play the game. Once you get to a certain level in Fallout titles, you can usually go all gung-ho and blast your way through most encounters, but obscuring your vision and filling the world with terrors beyond comprehension will keep even the most skilled players on their toes.
