Starfield players on PC can treat themselves to a drastically improved framerate thanks to a new free update.
This’ll be sad news for Starfield players on the Xbox Series X/S, as I’m sure we all remember the controversial announcement the game would be locked at 30FPS on consoles. PC users can bypass this issue though, and can now enjoy smoother framerates than ever thanks to this new update.

Bethesda shared all the details on a new blogpost, announcing players on Steam could trial AMD’S FSR 3, a major upgrade for the game’s graphics that’s free to try.

Without getting too technical, AMD’S FSR 3 significantly increases the resolution and framerate of games, provided you’ve got the hardware to actually notice the change. It fits right at home with Starfield, as the game already boasts some stunning views depending on the planet you’d landed on, so that boosted framerate is simply the cherry on top.
If you’re playing the game on Steam and have a powerful PC this update is well worth a go, though if you’d rather wait for the trial to end and the update to go mainstream you may have a smoother experience once all the kinks have been ironed out.
In other news, fears that Starfield would make the jump to the PlayStation 5 have gradually dissipated. There have been several industry rumours that Xbox would become a third-party company and make all of its exclusive games multiplatform. The head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, recently addressed the rumours on the Xbox podcast, saying four games will indeed be getting ported to other consoles, though Starfield isn’t one of them.
That doesn’t mean Bethesda’s space-faring RPG will never become a PS5 game as that could obviously change in the next few years, but for now Xbox fans can rest easy knowing Starfield isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
