Starfield has only been released for a short while, but already it’s taking the video game community by storm, which should come as little surprise, considering this has been one of the most highly anticipated games in recent times.
To say that Starfield is a massive game would be quite an understatement both in terms of content and hype. It boasts the largest cities and map that developer Bethesda has ever created and as such, some sacrifices were made in terms of visual fidelity and performance.

As such, Starfield at least on Xbox Series X|S only performs at 30 frames per second. Initially, the lack of 60fps may have put a few off, but once you become immersed in its world, it’s not all that noticeable with its performance being a somewhat consistent 30fps.

That being said, plenty of gamers would prefer Starfield to perform at 60fps or at the very least, offer the players a choice of favouring either graphics or visuals in the game settings. On PC, it is possible to reach 60fps with a capable system, but at the time of writing, it seems to be at an inconsistent level. However, there is hope.
As reported by PC Gamer, it is possible to give Starfield a much-needed fps boost. At this time, due to Bethesda’s collaboration with AMD, support for Nvidia’s DLSS is pretty much nonexistent.
Yet, thanks to a Nexusmods user by the name of Okhayko (via Reddit), they have shared a guide that should give Nvidia owners on PC an fps boost. According to the guide, you must enable the PCI express technology known as Resizable BAR (Base Address Register). By doing so, it will allow the CPU to access all of the GPU’s memory, which should translate into a performance boost.

PC Gamer also reports that if you own an RTX 30-Series GPU, you may need to update the firmware. If you already own an RTX 40-Series GPU or a motherboard that supports Resizable BAR, you should be good to go.
Then you must download the Nvidia Profile Inspector and make the following changes:
- Select Starfield in the profile drop menu
- Navigate to section 5
- Set the rBAR feature to enabled
- Set the rBAR options to 0x00000001 (Battlefield V, Returnal etc)
- Set the rBAR size limit to 0x0000000040000000 (Battlefield V, F1 2022, etc)
- Hit Apply Changes at the top right
In the near future, Nvidia should issue driver updates so that PC gamers playing Starfield won't have the need to take extra measures to be granted a stable 60fps performance with Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG. Until then, hopefully, this method will do the trick.

In related news, Starfield has proven to be so popular, that it is beating Skyrim’s concurrent player numbers on Steam, and 60fps is also apparently possible on Xbox Series X.
