New PlayStation 5 owners urged to do one thing first when setting up console

If you’re a new PlayStation 5 owner, you’re going to want to take note of this advice. That being said, it’s worth paying attention to even if you’ve owned your console for several years.

It can be hard to know where to begin when you set up a new console, especially the PlayStation 5 with its vast library of exclusives. Do you join PlayStation Plus? Which tier should you join? Which latest release is worth diving into? These are questions every new PlayStation 5 owner will have asked themselves. It turns out though that according to the PlayStation community, the first thing you should do couldn’t be any simpler - and that is to dive into Astro’s Playroom which just so happens to come pre-installed on your console for free.

It’s a great suggestion for a number of reasons. First of all, Astro’s Playroom is, like I said, free so you may as well make the most out of what comes included in your purchase. Second of all, it’s a stellar PlayStation exclusive to begin your journey and finally, it’s unmatched in showing off the DualSense controller’s capabilities. You may as well test out all of the PlayStation 5’s bells and whistles.

I said it’s solid advice for those of you that have had a PS5 for quite some time too. While I’m imagining many of you will already have sampled Astro’s Playroom, I bet there’s a significant chunk that haven’t. I’m pretty sure I owned my console for at least a year before I finally gave it a whirl and realised what I’d been missing out on.

Don’t just take my word for it. “Play Astro's Playroom first, it's free and actually a really good intro to the PS5 and the haptic feedback,” said Reddit user dyztructive, while Wilde_SIE added, “I'd recommend playing Astro's Playroom. It is a free game, that introduces you to the DualSense controller and what features it has.”

For those of us waiting for a sequel, I heartily recommend Sackboy: A Big Adventure which is included in PlayStation Plus’ extra tier. This 3D platformer offers similar levels of DualSense immersion.
