OG God Of War gets Unreal Engine 5 remake treatment

God Of War is huge right now, and for good reason. What started as a high-stress hack and slash in which you eliminate the entire Greek pantheon, became a beautiful narrative of love and forgiveness in the 2018 sequel/reboot.

Recently, the two sides of the same coin joined together in God Of War Ragnarok: Valhalla, a free roguelike DLC expansion that gave Kratos some much-needed character development.

While we patiently wait for God Of War 6, which might be taking a trip to Egypt of all places, fans are hoping for full-on remasters/remakes of the OG God Of War games for PlayStation 5. It’s been rumoured a trilogy collection is in the works, and if they look as good as this fan-made project we’re in for a real treat.

Taking a look at the concept video from TeaserPlay, you’ll see a gorgeous reimagining of Athens, the setting of the first game which you return to quite a bit during the story. Fans will immediately notice the gameplay itself is more akin to the recent God Of War entries with the camera behind Kratos’ back rather than in the air. I’d prefer the remakes to reuse the old style of hack-and-slash gameplay rather than the latest games, but I’m sure the developers could find a happy medium.

It’s said the team used all the latest Unreal Engine 5 tools to create the demo, “such as Lumen, Nanite, Path Tracer and Ray Tracing.”

TeaserPlay went on to say it hopes the remake can “clarify the expectations of the fans” in regards to an official remake.

The official remakes haven’t been confirmed at the time of writing, but given the popularity of the PlayStation exclusive, it’d make sense for the company to reimagine the games using the power of the PlayStation 5.

In the meantime, you can play the first two God Of War games via PlayStation Plus Premium, and the third can be bought outright on the PlayStation store.
