As the industry’s worst-kept secret, the PlayStation 5 Pro is an upcoming console that will bridge the gap between the standard PlayStation 5 and the future of the brand, the PlayStation 6. Implementing a Pro model was a relative success for Sony in the previous generation where they upgraded the PlayStation 4 with a boost to power, graphics, and processing.
While all the details we have for the PlayStation 5 Pro are based on rumours and speculation, much of what's come out has been from reliable sources and industry insiders. What we do know, is that it won’t be cheap.
PlayStation 5 is bolstered by a wealth of hardware to improve the playing experience.
It’s impossible to pinpoint an exact price, but you could be looking at an increase of a couple hundred dollars on the standard PlayStation 5. Considering that we’ve so far heard that the console will feature 33.5 teraflops of power, which is nearly three times what we get in the standard console, that’s already a huge improvement. On top of this, we’ll be looking at proprietary AI upscaling bestowing a similar power to DLSS, improved ray tracing and ray pathing, and better power distribution.

The upscaling alone will give players a better experience, particularly when playing older PlayStation 5 titles, or even games from previous generations as it will smooth the visuals and provide a bump in fps. There are no rumours about any changes to the optical drive, or the DualSense controller, there is also no clue as to when the console could launch.
On that latter point, there is some speculation that a Pro model will be released before the end of 2024 in the hopes that it will see sales of units in the run-up to Rockstar Games’ GTA VI, with Sony possibly communicating that PlayStation will be the premium place to play the new game. We can only hope that more details emerge over the summer.
