PlayStation dev clarifies what Xbox leaving consoles behind means for Sony

A PlayStation developer has said Xbox’s multiplatform approach won’t lead to a decrease in quality for first-party PlayStation games.

What a wild ride it’s been for PlayStation and Xbox fans this week. New rumours have stated Xbox is planning to embrace multiple platforms in the years to come, potentially ending the console war entirely. This includes making planned Xbox exclusives like Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle available on the PlayStation 5.

This doesn’t just apply to new releases either, it’s also said the Xbox’s legacy franchise could also make the jump to other consoles for the first time ever, like Gears Of War and a brand-new Halo game.

Xbox fans haven’t taken the news well, with some even starting to sell their consoles in protest. The head of Xbox. Phil Spencer, has commented on the outrage, saying it will be addressed in the near future.

If the rumours are true it’d mean the end of console wars as we know them, as PlayStation’s main competition has always been Xbox, with Nintendo just sort of chilling in the background doing its own thing. That said, a PlayStation developer, Robert Morrison, has come forward to say the lack of competition won’t mean first-party games will see a dip in quality. Morrison previously worked as an animator for Days Gone.

He said “At the developer level, PlayStation studios don’t compete against Xbox or Nintendo studios. We are all driven by an internal desire to create the best work possible.”

PlayStation’s first-party offerings have always been some of the best in the business, with the likes of God Of War, The Last Of Us and Marvel’s Spider-Man leading the charge for narrative-driven masterpieces that are also incredibly fun to play.

Hopefully a lack of competition from Xbox won’t lead to the company becoming complacent in its mission to push the boundaries of gaming.
