PlayStation free downloads for March announced, no PS Plus needed

PlayStation free downloads for March announced, no PS Plus needed

Who needs PlayStation Plus

PlayStation has outlined a bunch of free downloads gamers can claim throughout March, and you won't need PlayStation Plus to get your hands on them.

Last year (or possibly the year before, COVID wrecked my sense of time) PlayStation launched a loyalty scheme PlayStation Stars, in which you can earn points and digital collectibles that may look like NFTs but definitely aren't. These are probably worth more than NFTs, for one thing, which is saying something given they're worth nothing.

Take a look at our review of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth below!

Anyway, PlayStation Stars is completely free to sign up to, and you definitely should if you haven't already. If nothing else, you earn points just by buying games - points you can eventually use for money off on your next purchase.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, Sony just announced all of the digital trophies you'll be able to download and claim for free in March. Granted, these are hardly the most exciting free downloads you'll have ever seen, but if you've gotten into collecting these fun little trophies then you'll want to read on.

From 7 March you'll be able to grab a special Marvel's Spider-Man 2 collectible by completing a certain mission in-game. 15 March will see the release of a limited-edition MLB The Show 24 baseball bat trophy, and later on in March PlayStation will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Far Cry series with trophies based on Boomer (19 March) and Chorizo (24 March).

Finally, on 21 March, you can play Drums Rock, Rock Band 4, Ragnarock, or The Artful Escape to earn a special music-themed trophy. I would urge you to go with The Artful Escape because it's one of the best games of the last few years, but all of the games on that list are pretty awesome.
