PlayStation Plus subscribers are finally being turned on to one of the most underrated video games of 2021, and I am so here for it.

If you're a PlayStation Plus subscriber you'll no doubt be aware there's a huge amount of choice - especially if you're on the Extra or Premium tiers, where you get access to hundreds of free games. But it can be a little daunting to know where to start.

Fortunately for all of us, users on the PlayStation Plus subreddit have discovered an absolute gem of a game, and it's one I've actually been desperately trying to get anyone and everyone to play for the last few years. Now that it's free with PlayStation Plus, you really have no excuse.

Take a look at it in action below!

Developed by Greg Lobanov and released back in 2021, Chicory: A Colorful Tale is a gorgeous top-down adventure game with obvious Zelda influences and plenty of its own ideas.

Where most games that look and play a bit like Zelda are more than happy to stick to borrowing all of its ideas from Nintendo's franchise, Chicory is a beast all of its own. You play as a young dog who, armed with nothing more than a magic brush, must explore a black-and-white world in a quest to restore colour.

The paint brush is a central part of Chicory. Puzzles can be solved by interacting with the environment, painting certain patterns to progress, and keeping enemies at bay during rare but challenging boss encounters. Each screen of the world is also basically a new page in a colouring book - one that you can fill in any way you want.

When I reviewed Chicory back in the day I gave it a 9/10, but I certainly don't begrudge anyone making an argument for it as a 10/10 game.

"What fascinates me most is the overall package of Chicory," Reddit user Schweizsvensk points out. "As a stressed-out family man who works full time and has hardly any free time, Chicory is also another self-care. The soundtrack is soothing and drives me down after a stressful day."

I can also vouch for this, and am begging you - imploring you - to play Chicory. It really is one of the best games you'll play this year, and an experience you'll never forget.
