PlayStation Plus free game has a 'beautiful' story that's blowing fans' minds

PlayStation Plus' free game What Remains of Edith Finch has a 'beautiful' story that's blowing fans' minds.

PlayStation Plus is back at it again with another free game and this time it’s a heartbreaking first-person exploration game that is guaranteed to blow your mind.

What Remains of Edith Finch is a 2017 single-player game by Giant Sparrow that has since gone on to win a BAFTA for Best Game and The Game Award for Best Narrative. Telling the story of the last remaining member of the Finch family, you are tasked with exploring the family’s home that was the setting for the members’ untimely deaths. Now locked up with its secrets hidden within, you play as Edith Finch as she makes her way around the house and tells the story of her lost relatives.

Being one of my personal favourite games, this is not one to miss and players on Reddit agree. “Top five indie games ever for me. It's quite amazing. What a feat of unique storytelling that I don't see possible if it wasn't for video games,” says one user. Others chime in with their thoughts, calling What Remains of Edith Finch “a masterpiece,” “phenomenal” and “mind-blowing”.

Although walking simulation games aren’t everybody’s preferred genre, Giant Sparrow’s title has managed to stay with players long after the credits have rolled. A game about death becomes a game about hope, love and the importance of using your voice. Despite having “some of the darkest stories I’ve encountered in gaming”, according to another Reddit user, there’s a reason What Remains of Edith Finch has gone on to win multiple awards.

If you are yet to experience it, PlayStation Plus members will now have access to the game for free and this beautiful story is not one to miss. If you need something to play afterwards, however, make sure to check out the eight free games that have appeared in the PlayStation Plus catalogue early.
