Another day, another scalper ruining the fun for everybody else. This time they are getting hold of the newly released PlayStation Portal and are selling them on for ridiculous prices. Idiots.
Sony’s newest device, known as the PlayStation Portal, allows PS gamers to play their PS5 titles on the go using Remote Play. Released just this Wednesday, the device has already been slated after reports of an “unplayable level of lag” but that hasn’t stopped fans from flocking to shops and websites to get their hands on one.

Unfortunately, they will have to compete with the dreaded scalpers whose actions have already caused the PlayStation Portal to go out of stock on the PlayStation Direct store. As a result, Sony is advising customers to come back at a later date.

“Not in stock? We’re working hard to make more stock available,” claims the UK PlayStation Direct website. “Please check back on Wednesday 22nd November.” The US store also shows a similar message but tells customers to check back in early December.
In typical scalper fashion, some are already taking to sites like eBay to sell the PlayStation Portal for 50% more than its retail price. With the retail price sitting at $199.99 / €219.99 / £199.99, this is a drastic price difference and with Christmas coming up, some customers are going to be desperate enough to accept them.
With some eBay listings trying to sell the PlayStation Portal from everything between £290 to a whopping £1,325, it is clear that regardless of Sony’s stock, it could not compete with the scalpers. Let us just hope that more stock will become available before customers resort to paying ridiculous prices.
For those interested in the new PlayStation Portal, the Remote Play device will require a PlayStation 5 device in order to access titles and will not link via Cloud Streaming to titles owned on PlayStation Plus.
