One of the greatest RPGs of all time is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic released in 2003 and developed by BioWare and to this very day, this classic title is still discussed.
So when the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was announced for PC and PlayStation 5 in 2021, it was understandably met with a lot of excitement from both veteran fans of the series and those new. Aspyr was originally developing the highly anticipated remake without BioWare involvement before Saber Interactive took over the troubled project.

Unfortunately, it’s fair to assume that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is in the dreaded developmental hell. Not only has it been handed over to a new developer, the aforementioned Saber Interactive, but we’ve often heard conflicting reports that it may have been cancelled, causing gamers to mourn its loss while Jason Schreier says that it’s still in development.

I’m leaning towards the reports from Jason Schreier, after all, he is a reputable journalist and as of yet, Sony hasn't confirmed the cancellation of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake. I know we’re yet to see any gameplay or learn its release date but I would have thought if the project was dead, an official announcement may have been made already.
Now, in the latest twist to the tale, another video game journalist and industry insider, Jeff Grubb has suggested that the project is still alive but reportedly, Sony wants nothing to do with it. This is especially strange if true, considering that it will be a PlayStation 5 console exclusive, assuming that it’s ever released.

When asked on Twitter if there was an update on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake, Grubb said: “My understanding is that Sony wants nothing to do with it anymore, which is why I thought it was dead. Obviously, though, Saber still seems very determined. And I have a lot of trust in Saber.”
Of course, we should take all unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. Hopefully, we’ll learn positive news regarding the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake in the coming months, preferably from Sony or Saber Interactive.
If the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is ever released, it will launch on PC and PlayStation 5.
