Every platform has something it does just that little bit better than the others. Nintendo is dizzyingly inventive and is always willing to take risks. Xbox is constantly trying to find new ways to bring its games to the largest possible audience. And PlayStation? PlayStation does single-player stories quite like no other.
I should certainly stress Nintendo and Xbox know their way around an essential single-player adventure, but PlayStation has it down to an art at this point.

Just take a look at this roll-call: The Last Of Us. Bloodborne. Marvel's Spider-Man. God Of War. Ghost Of Tsushima. Horizon Zero Dawn. An amazing lineup, and that's before we even get to sequels like The Last Of Us Part II, God Of War Ragnarök, and the upcoming Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Of course it's also been a long while since PlayStation has officially announced a brand-new single-player story-driven game. In fact, after Marvel's Spider-Man 2 releases next month we have no idea what's coming next. We know Marvel's Wolverine is in development, but beyond that? Nothing. It's enough to make us fear PlayStation is leaving single-player behind.
Fortunately, a recent investor Q&A with PlayStation boss Jim Ryan (via ResetEra) confirms that single-player remains a huge focus at the company moving forward.
We will continue to publish the games that have served us so well over the years," Ryan explained in response to a question about balancing single-player with live service - something we know PlayStation is looking to expand into with the acquisition of Bungie. “These graphically beautiful narrative-rich games will be the bedrock of our first-party business.”
While this is, of course, a lovely sentiment, I think it's fair to say fans want to see some proof. It might be time for Sony to show off what the next couple of years look like, because I think Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will only keep the masses happy for so long.
