A fan-made Spyro game shows us exactly why everyone's favourite video game dragon needs to return.
Despite his overwhelming popularity, Spyro The Dragon hasn't had a new game in years now.

His most recent adventures include Spyro Reignited Trilogy, a gorgeous remake of the PlayStation 1 games. He's also been a prominent figure in the Skylanders series if you'd want to count that

Apart from those titles though, there's been no news on a true sequel or reboot. It's certainly an odd choice considering Activision released the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, and followed it up with Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time.
Xbox fans are now hoping the company's acquisition of Activision-Blizzard could now lead to new Spyro, and Crash, sequels exclusively made for the Xbox Series X/S.
In the meantime, there are several dedicated Spyro fans who've taken matters into their own hands, one of which has created a fan concept for an all-new game called Spyro: Explore The Dragonverse.
The concept was made in Unreal Engine 4, and is based on the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, it was uploaded to YouTube by Thomas FRAPPART. Featuring several sky-islands Spyro can jump and glide to, the player can chat to characters in need of assistance and burn up the local enemies with Spyro's fire breath.

For a fan-made title, it's got all the makings of a proper Spyro The Dragon game, and reiterates the need for Activision to make a new one.
There are whispers that a Spyro The Dragon 4 game is being made in the same style of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time. Unfortunately nothing can be confirmed at the time of writing but given Xbox's dire need of exclusive games, it'd make sense for it to take full advantage of Activision's IPs and push for sequels.
You never know, maybe it'll be a nice surprise announcement at The Game Awards next month…
