The Witcher fans should check out this free Steam game

This game might just fill the void The Witcher has left behind

Will we ever come close to playing a franchise that entices us quite so completely as The Witcher? It’s highly doubtful. Yet, while few can match its domination of the RPG genre, there are other titles out there Witcher fans should check out.

One such game is free on Steam, and while it has mixed reviews, a lot of those hark back to its early early access days, meaning an unfair blemish has been left on its legacy. We wouldn’t say it rivals The Witcher by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s one to add to your games library if you’re looking to broaden your experiences.

In-keeping with The Witcher theme, have you watched the trailer for The Witcher Sirens of the Deep?

“Our story begins in the Plains of Spero, where five great City States rule over the land. Tensions have risen to boiling point, and several powerful City Lords wish to take control of the region and name themselves king. Peaceful negotiations have descended into to all-out war, plunging the region into chaos. Lords fight against each other to gain power and land - each one hoping to claim the throne…” reads the synopsis.

Avalon Lords: Dawn Rises is a real-time strategy game based in the medieval period. You won’t get an in-depth romance option with Henry Cavill’s favourite girl Yennefer, but you’ll be able to raise an army and conquer your enemies. I know most of us would prefer Yen, but few of us could keep up with her anyway.

Predominantly, this PC game centres around multiplayer combat. However, single-player campaigns are on the way for those who wish to be the only leading force in the hostile takeover of the land. Most likely these changes and more will appear in the “larger patch” the devs have said will launch “next month”, thus showing just how dedicated to growing this game the team is.

The game might not stay free forever, so make sure to check it out before a potentially hefty price tag is added.
