Xbox system update adds feature that's going to ruin our lives

We won't stand for it

Microsoft has introduced a new feature to Xbox that I genuinely fear may ruin our lives. At least it will if you're as perpetually lazy as I am.

Xbox and PlayStation are constantly updating their consoles with shiny new features designed to make our lives much easier, which is all well and good. But what happens when they make our lives too easy, I ask you? Where does it end.

Take a look at the gorgeous new Xbox console below!

This is the exact question raised by a new feature currently being rolled out by Microsoft for Xbox consoles. As reported by The Verge's Tom Warren, Xbox is testing a feature that lets you pair accessories and controllers without having to get up. Previously you'd have to leave the safety of your chair and head over to your console to hit the pairing button - a rare bit of exercise for many of us.

Alas, once this new feature leaves Alpha and drops for everyone in the coming weeks or months, we'll be able to pair devices without going anywhere near the button on the console. You can see it in action below.

I am, of course, being facetious when I say this update will ruin lives. Many gamers have shared the same joke: that getting up to pair a controller is maybe one of the only times in a day we can be encouraged to move during a particularly lazy binge.

But this feature is actually a huge accessibility improvement for gamers who aren't actually able to get up and walk over to the console to pair a new controller, and I'm thrilled to see it's coming sooner rather than later.

In other Xbox news, Starfield fans are currently bracing for a potential day one patch for the sci-fi RPG. Even though you'll soon be able to download the game regardless of whether or not you pre-ordered, the fear of a meaty patch filled with day one fixes remains ever-present.
