PlayStation 5 owners are once again begging Sony to bring back custom themes

The latest PlayStation Showcase was somewhat of a disappointment. Don’t get me wrong, there were some great announcements and updates. It’s just that apart from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, very little was revealed about Sony’s upcoming first-party release slate.

What we do know though is that the PlayStation 5’s future is bright. The release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is right around the corner, and it's been confirmed that the map is twice as large as that of the original game. Naughty Dog may be canning their The Last of Us multiplayer project, but they have confirmed a new single-player experience in its stead. Although unconfirmed, we’re almost certain that Ghost of Tsushima 2 is on the way, and mystery projects are in the works at Bend Studio and Santa Monica Studio. If the PS5 is missing one thing though, it’s custom themes.

It’s a surprise that the PS5 doesn’t have customisable themes, seeing as it’s a feature that proved to be so popular on the PlayStation 4. Personally, I had a The Last of Us theme which will come as a surprise to no one that actually knows me. It’s not the first time that the idea has been raised. Last year, one PS5 fan made a mock-up of what the console would look like with a theme. Now, fans are once again asking Sony to release an update adding themes.

Reddit user LAVENDREP pointed out, “It’s been almost three years since launch and we still don’t have themes,” while Subject_Range_6796 added, “I miss my Bloodborne platinum theme.” Vastlymoist666 said, “I miss my Far Cry 5 theme. That guitar is so relaxing.” Opting for a slightly different point of view, SoylentGreen-YumYum commented, “I’m fairly indifferent to the PS5s homescreen. On the PS4, I’d typically just go for the least obnoxious one. Just give me folders. That’s what I really want.”

Sony has announced no plans to introduce themes so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
