PlayStation has no plans to launch games on PS5 and PC simultaneously

PlayStation recently stated they have no plans to give up staggered releases of PS5 exclusives on PC.

PlayStation recently discussed the possibility of PS5 exclusives launching simultaneously on PC, stating they have no plans to give up staggered releases.

Typically, PlayStation-exclusive games stay with the console for a number of years, before receiving a port to PC later down the line, with popular examples being Marvel’s Spider Man and God Of War. With more big exclusives on the horizon like Marvel’s Spider Man 2 and Wolverine, many fans are wondering if a PC port will be available from the release date, which unfortunately, doesn’t seem to be the case.

Jim Ryan, CEO of PlayStation, recently spoke with Famitsu about launch plans, saying: "We also fully understand the importance of PS5 exclusive titles … We are increasing the number of PS5 exclusive games, and staggering the release of the PC versions,"

Ryan’s reasoning for this supposedly comes from PlayStation fans themselves, as he stated: “I often have the opportunity to ask game fans for their opinions, and when I ask them how they feel about the time lag, they often say they feel the release of a PC version two or three years after the release of the PlayStation version is acceptable."

This is essentially the polar-opposite approach to their rival company Xbox, who generally release Xbox Series X/S and PC versions of a game at the same time, usually through Xbox Game Pass.

Of course, there is a case to be made about delayed PC ports being the right approach for the company, as one of the most recent ports, The Last Of Us Part 1, received heavy criticism and review bombing for a multitude of bugs and performance issues. Despite this, Sony has confirmed that they’ll continue to release PC ports of new exclusives, albeit after a certain amount of time has passed, hopefully enough to give them the polish they need.

So if you’re a PC-only player wanting to try out the latest and greatest that PlayStation has to offer, you’re out of luck, unless you’re willing to wait a while for a port to roll around. Look on the bright side though, at least you’ll get the game eventually, which unfortunately can’t be said for Xbox fans.
