Here comes your Dan.

It would seem the reports of Sir Daniel Fortesque's death have been greatly exaggerated. The much-loved (yet sadly overlooked by many a player of the era) PlayStation hit MediEvil was dug up late last year and given a new lease of life on PS4, much to the praise and enjoyment of old fans and newcomers alike.

Now, a series of cryptic tweets from the game's composer seem to suggest that Sony is already developing a remake of the original game's sequel. The Save MediEvil Twitter account (you can probably guess what they're all about) have been busy attempting to make enough noise to signify to Sony that a second remake would be very welcome news among fans.

During their efforts, they shared a brief exchange with Andrew Barnabas, the composer on the original MediEvil trilogy (if we count that PSP reimagining) and its 2019 remake. After the fan account simply tweeted out the number '2', in a reference to MediEvil 2, the composer hit back with a vague reply that certainly seems to hint that something is afoot.

See for yourself below.

Adding further fuel to the fire, Barnabas responded to another user who expressed doubt that Sony would push ahead with another remake since "MediEvil Remake didn't do very well".

The composer quickly told them that they were simply incorrect. Whether he meant the user was incorrect in saying the 2019 remake didn't sell very well, or was incorrect in saying there wouldn't be a second remake is unclear. But when paired with his first tweet, it certainly implies he's teasing the fans with incoming news.

The Save MediEvil Twitter account has claimed that sales of the first MediEvil remake sales have reached more than 400,000 since releasing last October, though I can't find anything to verify that number. What I can tell you is that the game entered the UK physical retail charts in fifth place, and was able to hang around in the top ten for at least a few weeks after launch. Not too shabby.

If, however, we were to compare the alleged MediEvil remake numbers to the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which reportedly sold over 2.5 million copies on PS4 alone in its first four months? Then yeah, the game didn't do too well.

With that said, I can't imagine for a second that anyone at Sony was expecting a remake of a fairly niche PlayStation game to sell anything like as well as a remake of one of the biggest PlayStation trilogies of all time. It's all relative, innit? And again, we don't know for sure that 400,000 copies of MediEvil sold is an accurate number.

As such, we can't say for sure whether or not Sony deemed the remade MediEvil a failure or not. The company certainly hasn't called it as much. Then again, they haven't really been bragging about it either.

As always, we'll have to wait for official word before we can say for sure that Sir Daniel Fortesque is gone for good or not. For right now though, Barnabas has suggested there's hope... so let's keep the flame burning a while longer, eh?
