The PlayStation 5 DualSense's Haptic Feedback Is So Incredibly Cool

The Dukes Of Haptic.

Allow me to be dramatic for a moment, and say that the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller is hands-down, the best controller I've ever had the pleasure of holding.

Sony's next-gen console, the PS5, comes with a slew of new accessories to take advantage of the stunning new tech on offer, like a brand new camera and headphones, but the DualSense is by far the most exciting prospect when it comes to providing players with a tangible look at what the future holds for gaming.

So, what about it makes it so good then? Well for starters, the haptic feedback technology is, for lack of a better simile, like surround sound for your hands. It allows for precise vibrations that marry what's happening on screen with what you feel in your hands. For example, let's say there's a thunderstorm causing havoc in game, and rain is lashing down on your character, whipped into a frenzy by cascading winds.

Each individual raindrop lands around the surface of the DualSense, which translates into you, the holder, being able to feel small pulses around your palm and fingers as the droplets land. You can even feel them at varying degrees of strength covering all bases from a light shower to monsoon conditions.

This also works for other things like swimming in water, which sends waves of pulses across the control pad to simulate the movement of water around a solid body. Same too with sand which tingles like so many million grains and hail which arrives in abrupt and icy coldness.

This is all well and good on its own, but the controller's in-built microphone also does some of the heavy lifting in making it such a wondrous piece of kit. Subtle sounds played through the base of the pad enhance the haptic feedback making it an experience like no other in the palm of your hands.
