In case you missed it earlier this week, yes, it’s finally happening. First announced in 2020 and tantalisingly teased in summer last year, we already knew that Skate 4 was a thing that’s going to exist, at some point. We just hadn’t actually seen anything of it yet.
That very recently changed when, as shared by VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb, some prototype gameplay footage emerged online, showing the game in, well, ‘all its glory’ is probably the wrong phrase to use. It’s a prototype, after all. But, it is very much there, and fans have been going understandably wild over it.

That’s not all though, because as reported by VGC, yesterday, Grubb went on to discuss the game further during his Giant Bomb show, Grubbsnax, and offered some pretty interesting claims about what the game might have to offer when it eventually releases: “There’s going to be a lot of user generated content, where you can wrap up your board with some crazy stuff that the community has made – they’re going to really emphasise that stuff,” he said (transcribed by VGC). “And where that stuff should shine is the other side of this, which is sort of this collaborative online free skate mode that does sound very good.

“This is a mode where you are hanging out with your friends or anyone else who is going to hop onto the server, and then anyone on the server can say, ‘hey, does anyone want to try and lay down some tricks with me over here on this thing?’,” he continued. “And then someone can lay down the skate park stuff required to do that in real time with everyone else right there and just say, ‘here’s the ramp we need to make this happen, there it is, now everyone start doing this.’
“And people can work together to make these parks all at the same time. You can add stuff, delete stuff on the fly, and the people that have played this mode said this was kind of the standout where it was just really fun to do that with friends and with other people.”
It goes without saying this is all unofficial insider information, so do take it with a nice, generous pinch of salt. That said, earlier this year, EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, revealed in an earnings call that user generated content will be “at the very centre [of] the design of Skate which will be launching soon”, so there’s definitely an element of truth here - we’ll just have to see what comes of it.
