Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland has been put on hold

Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland has been put on hold

Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland has reportedly been put on hold for the immediate future.

Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland has reportedly been put on hold for the immediate future.

In February 2023, Marvel Cinematic Universe chief Kevin Feige confirmed that the fourth Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland as the friendly neighbourhood hero is on the way.

During the time of its confirmation as the next Spidey entry in the MCU, no story details or release window were revealed. However, it would be safe to assume that the movie's launch would be at least two or three years away.

Well, we’ve now had an update on Spider-Man 4 and it’s not particularly great news. As reported by Digital Spy, during an interview with Variety, Sony Pictures producer Amy Pascal, revealed that production has been put on hold.

“Are we going to make another movie? Of course, we are,” she said. “We're in the process, but [with] the writers' strike, nobody is working during the strike. We're all being supporters and whenever they get themselves together, we'll get started.”

Unfortunately, the writer's strike has impacted a number of TV and movie productions, including the rebooted Daredevil series on Disney Plus as well as Deadpool 3. So until the pay disputes are resolved, productions being put on hold is going to be a common theme for the foreseeable future.

Thankfully, there is some good news to report, at least. During the same interview with Variety, Amy Pascal confirmed that live-action Spider-Woman and Miles Morales movies are on the way. Happy days!

Speaking of Miles Morales, the sequel to the brilliant 2018 animated movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel, releases in cinemas this week with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

In related gaming news, during a recent PlayStation Showcase event we were finally treated to the first gameplay of Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and it’s fair to say that fans were blown away. What’s more, it also promises to have a much larger map to explore than its 2018 predecessor.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released later this year for PlayStation 5.
