Tom Holland isn't convinced Spider-Man 4 will actually happen

Spider-Man actor Tom Holland isn’t convinced the upcoming MCU film Spider-Man 4 will happen, amidst difficulties caused by the ongoing writers strike.

The Writer’s Guild of America strike has caused chaos in the TV and film industry, leading to several delays and project halts for a number of Marvel films and shows like Deadpool 3 and Daredevil: Born Again.

Now, it seems like it’s Spider-Man 4’s turn to have its development compromised, and even Tom Holland is unsure if it’ll go ahead.

Speaking in an interview with Inverse, Holland discussed the Spider-Man: No Way Home sequel, and its chances of persevering through the writer’s strike, saying "Whether or not it'll come to fruition, who knows? … But right now it's looking pretty good, and we'll just have to wait and see."

He also discussed the future of Spider-Man in general, including passing the torch on to Miles Morales, who’s been confirmed to be receiving a live-action film by Sony. Holland said, "I would be honoured to bring Miles Morales into the live action world. How we do that, I don't know, but given the opportunity, I would jump at it”.

It’d be quite fitting too, as Holland recently confirmed his favourite Spider-Man film is Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which may change when he gets to watch its perfect sequel, Across The Spider-Verse. It’d also fit the character of Spider-Man as well, as Peter Parker’s iteration of the webslinger has mentored Miles Morales on several occasions, most notably in the Insomniac Marvel’s Spider-Man games.

It also fits Spidey’s character arc in the MCU, going from a young inexperienced Avenger in need of mentoring from Iron Man to learning to stand on his own and be his own hero, something many fans were excited to see at the end of No Way Home.

Spider-Man 4’s fate may be up in the air, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of wallcrawler content to go around. Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse is in cinemas right now, and it’s honestly one of the (if not the) best Spider-Man films ever made. There’s also Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releasing exclusively for PlayStation 5 later this year, which received a gameplay reveal as well as a release date.
