Steam's top-selling new game is a wild 254-player FPS with major Battlefield vibes

There are so many first-person shooters out there that it can be difficult to know exactly which are worth trying, especially when there are franchises like Call of Duty and Battlefield dominating the genre. A brand new FPS has launched though on Steam, and the chaos of the wild 254-player lobbies is proving to be a hit.

It’s no secret that FPS are immensely popular on Steam. If you take a look at Steam’s current most-played games, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, and Warzone all hold positions in the top 10. It’s easy to keep drifting back to your old favourites. I’m more of a third-person Fortnite battle royale kind of a gal, but I know I’m drifting to that game all of the time. That being said, it’s fun to try something new every now and then and BattleBit Remastered is the new hit that players cannot stop raving about.

BattleBit Remastered took seven years to launch and is a low-poly FPS game that supports up to 254 players in a single lobby. Industry reporter Jake Lucky shared the hit to Twitter describing it as “Call of Duty meets Battlefield meets LEGO,” and judging by the gameplay that seems like an apt description. Developers SgtOkiDoki, Vilaskis, and TheLiquidHorse are the trio behind the game. The synopsis reads, “Battle on a near-fully destructible map with various vehicles.”

The game released yesterday, so it’s truly brand new, but it’s already got a 90% approval rating on Steam. One user wrote, “Three people made a better game than a majority of the big publishers,” while another added, “Modern FPS devs crying right now.” Someone commented, “Great game. 100% worth the price.” One review read, “This game does what Battlefield couldn’t, what Squad hasn’t, and what no other game has attempted. Sounds dramatic, and it is, but this game is really good.”

You can purchase the game for £12.79 which is very reasonable indeed. There’s also a supporter’s edition for £28.06 (correct at the time of writing) which comes with the DLC Supporter Pack 1 - a selection of exclusive gun skins.
