Stranger Things Eddie Munson spinoff announced

A Stranger Things spinoff starring season four fan favourite Eddie Munson has been announced.

A Stranger Things spinoff starring season four fan favourite Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) has been announced.

When lovable Eddie was introduced in the Netflix series Stranger Things, he quickly became a cherished personality. Which was quite the feat considering that he was in contention with established characters of the series since it first aired in 2016. During the heights of season four, it was next to impossible not to see a random passerby not wearing a Hellfire Club t-shirt out in public.

The leader of The Hellfire Club represented those that wanted to let loose their inner geek and during the 1980s, the decade in which Stranger Things is set, expressing your inner geek certainly wasn't as easy as it is today.

So with the news that Eddie is now getting a prequel, this will be music to the ears of Metallica fans from across the world. In an exclusive from Entertainment Weekly, while Eddie isn't getting a prequel in the form of a Netflix series, it instead comes in the form of a novel written by Caitlin Schneiderhan and published by Penguin Random House.

The novel titled Flight of Icarus will be set in 1984, two years prior to the events of season four and will release on 31 October 2023. The story tells the tale of Eddie being on the verge of realising his dream to make it big with his band Corroden Coffin, after meeting a record producer named Paige. The only problem is, Eddie and Co haven't got the money to bring their dream to life. Still “Eddie can feel it: 1984 is going to be his year.”

“The Eddie Munson we meet at the beginning of Stranger Things 4 is the protective shepherd to the nerdy lost sheep of Hawkins High. But taking on that mantle wasn't such a cut-and-dry decision,” Schneiderhan says in a statement provided to EW. “I'm so excited for fans to go with him on his journey towards becoming a hero, to experience the messy and uncomfortable decisions that led him to become the brave misfit we all know and love.”

At this time, we don’t have a release for season five of Stranger Things. However, with filming not beginning until June 2023, its release isn't likely until at least 2024.

In related news, Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo fears that we won’t get work once the series ends.
