‘The Callisto Protocol’ Will Have A PlayStation Exclusive Feature

The Callisto Protocol is receiving a cross-platform release but creator Glen Schofield has revealed one feature is a PlayStation exclusive.

The Callisto Protocol looks set to be one of the strongest new horror IPs in years. Billed as the “single most scariest game for PC and consoles,” we now know that the new title from Dead Space creator Glen Schofield will release on 2 December, 2022.

Originally, The Callisto Protocol was due to be set within the PUBG universe but that is no longer the case. The game will receive a cross-platform release yet it’s now been revealed that one feature of the game is set to be exclusive to PlayStation players.

Take a look at the brand new gameplay for The Callisto Protocol which certainly looks terrifying.

Speaking on PlayStation Blog, Schofield announced that those who pre-ordered the game on the PlayStation Store would “receive a special Contraband Pack to help give Jacob a fighting chance against the unspeakable horrors of Black Iron Prison.” Very interesting. It’s not yet known exactly what the Contraband Pack includes but it’ll likely be weapons, health aids and other key supplies that’ll push players along nicely.

During this week’s State of Play, Striking Distance Studios dropped the first look at The Callisto Protocol’s gameplay and now Schofield has further elaborated on what we can expect. He said, “Callisto is an oppressive world that feels desolate, isolated, and puts players on edge. We spend a ton of time designing the lighting to create a sense of dread and keep players guessing about what’s in the shadows.”

“We also obsess over building and releasing tension. You can’t have jump scares around every corner. Sometimes we space scares out to give players time to catch their breath, and sometimes we hit them with two or three scares in a row. We want your heart to race with every tick of the PS5’s awesome haptics.”

Schofield went on to say, “The Callisto Protocol is a survival horror game, so players should feel helpless. Jacob isn’t a soldier, and every encounter is a life and death struggle.” It certainly sounds like players will be in for a terrifying time. Are you brave enough to enter Black Iron Prison? I’m not sure I am.
