Like it or not, The Witcher's fourth season will be going ahead without Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia.
Netflix confirmed over the weekend that The Witcher season four will see Liam Hemsworth step into the starring role, a piece of recasting that has, so far, led to calls to fire the writers and boycott the show altogether. It's going well, then.
Through all this, you have to feel for poor old Liam Hemsworth. The guy is simply attempting to do a job, and has somehow been sucked into one of the most intense fan reactions since... well, probably since when Netflix announced Henry Cavill as Geralt. Anyone else remember when people thought he'd suck in the role? Yeah, me too.

“As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” Hemsworth said in a statement. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.
"Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”
While we've yet to see Hemsworth in action, fans have wasted no time in creating deepfake teasers that imagine what he'll look like in the role. It should go without saying, of course, that simply sticking his face on Henry Cavill's body is hardly going to paint a clear picture. Not that this has stopped the fans from rinsing these unholy creations.
Before Hemsworth makes his debut in The Witcher season four, Henry Cavill will return one last time for the fantasy series' upcoming third season, expected 2023. Let's hope that we get an official look at Hemsworth in the role before then so Netflix can start winning people over, eh?
