This ‘Assassin's Creed’ Remaster Is A Thing Of Beauty

This ‘Assassin's Creed’ Remaster Is A Thing Of Beauty

The mod completely overhauls 'Assassin's Creeds' graphics and the difference is stark.

Roll up fashionistas, remasters are the trend of the moment. Between the Mass Effect Legendary Edition and the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition, plenty of era-defining classics have recently undergone the remaster or remake treatment. In the ongoing race for photo-realistic graphics, even relatively recent games are eligible for a facelift - if rumours of a The Last of Us remake prove to be true.

There’s one major franchise that yet seems to have associated itself with this trend: Assassin’s Creed. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Assassin’s Creed was launched as an open-world action-adventure stealth title in 2007 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Whilst the latest instalment Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is undoubtedly a great game, it’s Altaïr’s trails through the Holy Land that triggers true nostalgia.

Itching for more Assassin's Creed content? We did a deep dive into the series' latest expansion, Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok.

Given how popular remasters are, it’s surprising that Assassin's Creed is yet to receive an overhaul but a new mod has now shown us what an updated Assassin's Creed could look like and cor blimey … it’s good.

The remaster is the work of YouTuber and digital artist Digital Dreams who adjusted the game’s textures and shading to offer a glimpse as to what Assassin's Creed could look like with 8K visuals and the difference is huge. Side by side visuals prove that without a nostalgia-lens, Assassin’s Creed was an underwhelmingly dull looking game aesthetically.

As this mod exclusively singles out Assasin’s Creeds’ visuals, the eight-minute demo includes some clunky animations present in the original game, but Digital Dreams’ work is just a teaser of what we could expect from a full remaster. Personally, I’d love to see Assassin's Creed get the full remake treatment as the gameplay itself would certainly benefit from an overhaul but for now, I’ll watch this remaster on repeat and dream.
