Thor: Chris Hemsworth is ready to leave the MCU

With the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, phase four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has officially drawn to a close. It’s been an interesting period. After all, the MCU had to somewhat reset after the epic Infinity Saga ended. Phase four has introduced us to a ton of new characters (I stan Kamala Khan, let it be heard), plus it’s the first MCU phase to venture into the realm of TV.

Phase four may bring in new characters and formats, but it was also absent of certain things that we’re used to. It’s the first Marvel phase not to include an Avengers film - or a team-up of any kind really. We know that an Avengers film is eventually coming though - in 2025 - but one thing we might not be seeing anymore of is Chris Hemsworth as Thor.

In case you missed it, Chris Hemsworth has revealed that he’s taking a break from acting. During the filming of his Disney+ documentary series Limitless, Hemsworth discovered via genetic testing that he carried two copies of a gene which makes him 10 times more likely to suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. The gene is thought to only affect around 3% of people.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth previously said, “It really triggered something in me to want to take some time off. And since we finished the show, I’ve been completing the things I was already contracted to do.” The actor also revealed that it may be time to shut the door on his stint as Thor.

He said, “I feel like we'd probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean? I feel like it probably warrants that. I feel like it'd probably be the finale, but that's not based on anything anyone's told me or any sort of plans. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don't know — am I at that stage? Who knows?" I think we can all agree that Thor deserves an epic Marvel send-off.
