Thor: Love And Thunder was too cringe, Chris Hemsworth agrees

Chris Hemsworth recently spoke out about the controversial Thor: Love And Thunder, believing they may have gone too far with the humour.

Safe to say fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe haven’t loved the majority of projects that were released after Avengers: Endgame, with the majority failing to impress critics and MCU veterans.

That isn’t to say there have been some highlights. Spider- Man: No Way Home, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 were all brilliant films that were a huge success amongst audiences.

There have been some failures though, and none hit as hard as Thor: Love And Thunder. While it wasn’t the worst film the MCU has released so far, it did divide the fanbase, many of which were unhappy with the film’s story, pacing and sense of humour.

Now, Thor himself Chris Hemsworth has spoken about the film, agreeing that it did lean into the silliness too much. Speaking in an interview with GQ, Hemsworth said: “I cringe and laugh equally at it … I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly. It's always hard being in the centre of it and having any real perspective… I love the process, it's always a ride. But you just don't know how people are going to respond."

The film’s story followed Thor and Jane Foster (The Mighty Thor) on a quest to stop Gorr the God Butcher from destroying every god in existence. There was also a side plot surrounding Jane Foster, who was slowly dying of cancer, and using her newfound Thor powers to prolong her life.

With those plot points in mind, fans were expecting a serious film that equally showed off Gorr as the threat he is in the comics, and also dealt with Jane Foster’s illness with a similar level of maturity. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case as the film was filled to the brim with jokes and gags, some were funny, but most were cringy, and rubbed fans the wrong way with many saying it was just too much.

It’s unknown when and where Hemsworth will return to the role of Thor, as he’s currently taking it easy in his acting career, following a recent diagnosis of an Alzheimer's gene.
