Toy Story 2 was PS Plus' top PS1 game of 2022

Toy Story 2 was PS Plus' top PS1 game of 2022

In a proper turn up for the books.

In a right turn up for the books, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue is the most played PlayStation Plus PS1 game of 2022, only surpassed by Mafia: Definitive Edition and God of War 3 Remastered in the roster of classics on offer.

As a tie-in title to the 1999 movie, Buzz is tasked with the retrieval of Woody following Al McWhiggin's nefarious act to steal him from Andy's family's yard sale. Across 15 levels, the player explores locations inspired by the movie and clambers from point to point using Buzz's wings as a double jump (remember, he can't fly). Clearly, the game holds a lot of cherished memories for gamers as Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue surged through the ranks of the PS Plus list of classic games, and it's sort of sweet that it's gotten this lease of life. Thanks to Eurogamer for pointing this out to us.

I never played this but to be fair I could totally see myself lying prone on a sofa after an alcohol-induced headache plugging away at its straightforward gameplay. In fact you only need less than 10 hours to complete Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue even if you spent all of that time hunting down Pizza Planet coins scattered across the levels. Funnily enough, if you head over to How Long To Beat, a handful of players have reported times while on the PlayStation 5.

Generally speaking, Sony hasn't really prioritised the preservation of its games so it's interesting that this one has endured as long as it has. To contrast, Red Dead Redemption was silently deleted from PlayStation Now and so there is no way of playing that acclaimed game on either PS4 or PS5. That's the way the cookie crumbles.
