There’s some good news and some bad news for fans of the Aliens vs. Predator franchise. The good news is that a brand new anime series has been completed. Nice! The bad news is that that happened several years ago, and no one seems to know exactly what’s happened to it since.
The Alien and Predator franchises are both series which have had some real highs when kept far, far away from each other. As for their combined efforts? Not so much. While the first film, simply titled Alien vs. Predator, was certainly the better of the two (we don’t talk about Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem), neither were brilliant. Perhaps it’s because of this that Aliens vs Predator: Annihilation hasn’t been unleashed upon us.

Confused? Let’s rewind. As Dexerto reports, earlier this year on an episode of the Perfect Organism Podcast, it was claimed by Joshua Izzo, the former director of licensing at 20th Century Fox, that 10-episode Alien vs. Predator anime series has been completed. However, last weekend during Otakon in Washington, DC, anime director Shinji Aramaki confirmed during a panel that he was hosting that the rumours of this unreleased anime series were true. He’d know, after all, since he was the director of it.

Aramaki believes that the series, which had a working title of Aliens vs Predator: Annihilation, was indeed 10 episodes long, and was set on a huge immigration ship. He wasn’t willing to reveal any more about it just in case it ever releases, though.
Back in May, Aramaki responded to the anime series rumours on Twitter, where he wrote: “It was completed almost seven years ago, and unfortunately I don’t know why they didn’t release.”
With that in mind, it seems somewhat unlikely that Aliens vs Predator: Annihilation may ever see the light of day, but we can live in hope.
