DC’s latest animated film, Justice League: Warworld, is available now, and is significantly better than the recent live-action projects.

Compared to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, the DC live-action films are usually a hit-or-miss, with its latest superhero flick, The Flash, bombing at the box-office, losing Warner Bros millions in the process.

However, something DC always does well is animated movies and shows, and the newest comic book adaptation, Justice League: Warworld is no exception.

Taking place in the newest iteration of its animated universe, dubbed the “Tomorrowverse”, the new film takes fan-favourites Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman and places them in a fight for survival on an unknown and dangerous planet. DC’s trinity played by The Boys star Jensen Ackles (Batman), Darren Cris (Superman) and Stana Katic (Wonder Woman).

Each of the three heroes is separated and forced to take on their own challenge. Wonder Woman throws down in the Wild West, Superman investigates a sci-fi/noir alien invasion, and Batman faces off against wizards and monsters in a fantasy world.

The one pulling all the strings is none other than Mongul, an alien warlord who regularly pops up in DC media to cause trouble for its characters, though he’s often credited as one of Superman’s main villains due to his strength.

While there have been several Tomorrowverse films up to this point, Justice League: Warworld is a pivotal moment in the series. Up to this point, the DC characters have been scattered on their own adventures, but the events of this film will see them learn the value of having a strong team of meta-humans to take on major threats.

The film also directly leads into the events of the next animated adventure planned for the series, Crisis On Infinite Earth, an ambitious crossover that puts the entire DC multiverse on the edge of destruction.
