Doctor Who: David Tennant voted best Doctor by landslide in massive poll

It’s a question as old as time itself, Doctor Who? Recently, Whovians voted on who the best time lord is, and the result was unsurprising.

Doctor Who fans have been patiently waiting for the show’s return, which will be celebrating its 60th anniversary with a bang later this year, most notably with the return of David Tennant as the 14th Doctor.

Check out the trailer for the upcoming 60th anniversary specials of Doctor Who

David Tennant originally played the 10th Doctor from 2005-2010, before handing the key to the Tardis over to Matt Smith who played the 11th. Tennant starred in four highly-successful series and several special episodes, most notably the 50th anniversary special, The Day Of The Doctor, that saw the 11th, 10th and War Doctor crossover.

Now, Tennant will once again reprise his role as the time-lord, this time as a different incarnation, who’ll appear in three special episodes later this year, before passing the torch to new actor Ncuti Gatwa. Details are few and far between as to what we can expect from the specials, but we do know fan-favourite companion Donna Noble, played by Catherine Tate, will return, as well as a mysterious new villain played by Neil Patrick Harris will cause mayhem for the Doctor and the human-race.

Recently, die-hard Whovians launched a poll to determine who the best Doctor Who actor was, and sure enough, David Tennant dominated the results.

A grand total of 5,196 votes were cast, with the candidates being the 15 main Doctor Who actors, as well as other variations of the character, like John Hurt’s War Doctor and Jo Martin’s Fugitive Doctor. Even the Comic Relief Doctors were included, like Joanna Lumley and Rowan Atkinson.

In the top three spots, David Tennant stormed ahead to 1st place, with a brilliant 2,403 votes, followed by Matt Smith with 831 votes, and then Tom Baker with 471 votes. Personally, I’d have liked to see Matt Smith place a little bit higher, but you can’t argue with the end result.

The 60th anniversary of Doctor Who will kick-off in November this year, with three special episodes.
