Marvel has found the perfect replacement for Jonathan Majors' Kang, says insider

Marvel needs to address its Kang problem. It’s no secret that 2023 was a rocky year for the MCU. Several films underperformed at the box office and the man portraying The Multiverse Saga’s big bad, Jonathan Majors, was found guilty of harassment and assault.

Majors was found guilty last month, in December. He was arrested following a conflict with Grace Jabbari, a girlfriend at the time of the altercation. It’s reported that Jabbari noticed suspicious texts on Majors’ phone, with the actor supposedly twisting her arm and striking her on the head when he retrieved the phone. Following the conviction, Majors will face sentencing on Tuesday 6 February. He could face up to a year in prison for the charges of third-degree assault and second-degree aggravated assault.

The Marvels underperformed at the box office.

Following the trial, it was reported that Disney had dropped Majors from his role as Kang The Conqueror, throwing the MCU’s plans into question. We were first introduced to Kang, via the variant He Who Remains, in season one of Loki. Majors has since reprised the role(s) in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and season two of Loki. The Multiverse Saga was due to conclude in 2026 with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Insiders claim that studio executives have begun referring to The Kang Dynasty simply as Avengers 5. This is merely a rumour, but it’s certainly not too late for Marvel to change its plans. The Multiverse Saga isn’t exactly off to an enrapturing start. Many proposed that Doctor Doom could be phased in as the new big bad, with Mads Mikkelson suggested to take on the role.

It looks instead as if Marvel may be preparing to recast Kang. Actor John Boyega has already voiced that he’s not interested after being touted as a potential suggestion. Insider DanielRPK now claims that studio execs have their sights set on Colman Domingo - and I really hope this is true because Domingo is a fantastic actor.

You’ll likely best know Domingo from his role as Victor Strand on AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead. If you’ve seen the show, you’ll know that the actor exudes charisma, perfect for a multi-faceted character like Kang. This year, he starred in films Rustin, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and The Colour Purple. Without an official announcement from Marvel, do take all of this with a pinch of salt, but it’s certainly a rumour to be excited about.
