Marvel considering ditching Jonathan Majors' Kang for another major villain

It has been a tough couple of years for the Marvel Cinematic Universe due to animators unionising, a change-up with upper management and actors facing criminal charges. It is the latter issue that has caused Marvel and Disney to work on contingency plans which would mean Jonathan Majors’ Kang being replaced by another villain.

A recent Variety report has highlighted the future plans for the MCU. With plans such as working on a new Avengers movie which would bring back old characters such as Iron Man and Black Widow, Marvel executives are ready to return to the MCU roots. However, after Kang’s Jonathan Majors was arrested on domestic violence charges in March of this year, it seems as though the writers have been thinking of ways to replace his iconic villain.

According to the recent report, Marvel executives considered these back-up plans after Majors was arrested earlier this year. Despite Majors’ Kang originally set to be MCU’s main villain for the next several years, the executives are not opposed to completely ditching the actor in order to make way for another. "They haven’t had an opportunity to rewrite until very recently [because of the Writers Guild of America strike]. But I don’t see a path to how they move forward with him,” explained one source in the Variety report.

Kang’s replacement would come in the shape of Marvel Comics’ greatest villain: Doctor Doom, according to Marvel president Kevin Feige. As this is only an idea as of now, we are unsure who will be taking on the role of the formidable villain but it will be exciting to see one of his calibre joining the fray. Either way, it will be interesting to see how Kang is written out of the MCU after recently appearing in Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
